Republican Delegate and Caucus Chair Tim Hugo has sent out multiple campaign mail pieces that contain lies about Democratic challenger Dan Helmer’s position on health care, despite Helmer’s clear record on the issue. PolitiFact Virginia rated Hugo’s claims “mostly false” on Tuesday.
According to PolitiFact, “…Hugo has taken the liberty to misleadingly create a position for Helmer.”
Hugo eked out reelection in 2017 by a razor-thin margin. This year, Dan Helmer is running to flip HD-40, the last Republican-held seat in Prince William County.
Dan Helmer is a veteran and the grandson of Holocaust survivors, who helps manage a small business where he works to protect veterans’ healthcare. He is running for the House of Delegates to fight for affordable healthcare, common-sense gun violence prevention, and women’s reproductive rights.
