RICHMOND, VA – Today, House Democrats passed HB1208 to create a standardized, transparent method to estimate the true annual funding needed for Virginia’s early childhood care and education system. This creates reliable information for policymakers to consult and lays the groundwork to ensure parents can access the childcare they need at a cost they can afford.
“Right now, 8,000 Virginia children are on waitlists for early childcare and education, and child care costs are rising,” said Delegate Briana Sewell, Chief Patron of HB 1208. “This legislation is a necessary step to not only decrease the high cost of childcare but also provide recommendations to address the shortage of early childhood care program spots.”
