Richmond, VA – Today, CNBC announced their annual rankings for the states that are best for business. It came as no surprise to House Democrats that with the flipping of the House of Delegates last November, Virginia returned to its former number-one ranking. This is the third time in five years that our Commonwealth has been recognized as the top state due to our world-class education, investments in infrastructure, and preparing our residents for in-demand skilled jobs. We know that Virginia is the best place to work, live, and raise a family.
“When Democrats returned to the majority in the General Assembly, we got Virginia back on track. This year, we passed a bipartisan budget and made sure that it reflected Virginians’ values,” said Speaker Don Scott. “Businesses want to build their workforces in states where their employees have a great quality of life. Virginia is the place for working families. They have access to great schools, jobs, and amenities that can be accessed easily due to our infrastructure and where a full range of healthcare is available – especially women’s reproductive healthcare. Democrats made these investments, we held the line, and now we’re reaping the rewards.”
“Virginia is the center of the 21st-century economy and continues to be a leader in expanding broadband. This, combined with our competitive and skilled workforce, and top-ranked economic development climate, has made us a state for businesses to thrive,” said Majority Leader Delegate Charniele Herring. “In today’s economy, continuous access to high-speed internet is crucial for not only businesses to succeed but also for people to thrive in their everyday lives. We are all connected because of access to broadband, continuing to expand access and make improvements remains a top priority for us.”
“When my eldest son was about to start Kindergarten, my family moved to Virginia because of its strong public K-12 schools, so I know firsthand the importance of a world class public education system in providing a solid foundation for our kids, our communities, and our economy,” said House Democratic Caucus Chair, Delegate Kathy Tran. “I’m proud of the leadership and historic investments House Democrats have made to continue strengthening early education, public K-12 schools, and higher education, including HBCUs. House Democrats will never stop fighting so that every child, regardless of their background or zip code, receives a world-class education.”
