House Democrats Highlight Legislative Wins Amidst Federal Inaction
RICHMOND, VA — Today, Virginia House Democrats, joined by their Senate Democratic colleagues, held a press conference to showcase the progress made during this year’s legislative session in their continued effort to Unleash Virginia’s Potential. Lawmakers detailed key victories on pressing issues, including addressing the housing crisis, expanding access to childcare, lowering costs for families, and protecting fundamental rights through constitutional amendments.

Speaker Don Scott giving remarks on the House Democrats’ legislative wins.
Speaker Don Scott underscored the momentum behind Virginia Democrats, pointing to key electoral and legislative wins:
“After November, folks were quick to question whether Democrats had the “energy” to take on Trump and his antics. So what did [Virginia House Democrats] do? We won two special elections, overperforming expectations. We unveiled our platform to Unleash Virginia’s Potential. We’ve been passing bills to address the housing crisis, expand child care, lower costs, invest in a world-class education, and protect your rights. But what are Virginia Republicans doing?[…] They’re oddly silent. We are using every tool in our toolbox to combat this chaos and protect Virginians’ livelihoods. So to the hardworking people of Virginia—from Pulaski to Prince William, to Norfolk to New Kent—here’s our message: We are focused on you.”
Majority Leader Charniele Herring emphasized the urgency of safeguarding Virginians’ rights in the face of national challenges:
“Virginians elected a Democratic House Majority in 2023 because they trusted us to protect their rights. So it is our obligation – our duty – to stand firm in our defense of them. That’s why one of our first orders of business this session was passing Constitutional Amendments, to put power back in the hands of Virginians. Because we know that Virginians should have more of a voice in shaping their futures, not less. We have a President and his MAGA cronies unilaterally stripping Americans of our fundamental rights and freedoms, but we House Democrats are poised to fight and return the power to where it belongs – the people.”
With critical legislation already passed and more work ahead, Virginia House Democrats remain committed to delivering results that lower costs, expand opportunities, and protect fundamental freedoms for all Virginians.
