Richmond, VA – Today, Virginia House Democrats passed Leader Charniele Herring’s House Bill 397 (HB397) to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a program that:
- Lowers monthly electric bills in the long term through energy-efficiency programs
- Invests in weatherization and low-income energy efficiency programs to build and upgrade energy-efficient, affordable housing
- Helps communities to offset costs through flood mitigation and resilience planning
“Leaving RGGI harmed Virginian families,” said Leader Charniele Herring, patron of HB397. “Rejoining RGGI will help lower energy costs long-term and expand energy-efficient housing, as well as prepare and protect communities for flooding events. I look forward to the Senate passing this legislation and sending it to Governor Spanberger’s desk for her to sign.”
