Rasoul Named Chair As Lawmakers Gather in Richmond for the 2023 VA Education Summit
RICHMOND, VA – Today, Speaker-designee Don Scott announced he has selected Delegate Sam Rasoul to chair the House Education Committee in the 2024 General Assembly Session. Del. Rasoul has served in the House of Delegates since 2014. He is also a current member of the Education Committee.
Speaker-designee Don Scott said, “I am excited to announce that Delegate Rasoul has been selected to chair the education committee. Rasoul has been a champion for public education and has the grit to take on the biggest challenges facing our education system. I look forward to his accomplishments as Chairman.”
“I thank Speaker-designee Scott for his tireless commitment to creating a world-class education in Virginia. We must ensure our students, teachers, and staff are provided all the resources necessary to thrive at every school across the Commonwealth. As someone who has substitute taught, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our teachers face. It’s time we raise teacher pay above the national average to retain Virginia’s amazing teachers, and continue investing in mental health care access for our students,” said Delegate Sam Rasoul.
Rasoul’s position as House Education Committee Chair will become effective upon Scott’s election as Speaker by the House of Delegates, after the members take their oaths of office on the first day of Session, January 10, 2024.
