Watts to Chair Finance Committee; Hope to Chair Courts of Justice Committee

RICHMOND, VA – Today, Speaker-designee Don Scott announced he has selected Delegate Vivian Watts to chair the House Finance Committee. Del. Watts previously chaired the Committee in the 2020 and 2021 Legislative Sessions and currently serves as a ranking minority member of the committee. She is also the longest serving Democrat in the House of Delegates.
Speaker-designee Scott has also selected Delegate Patrick Hope to chair the Courts of Justice Committee. Del. Hope has served in the House of Delegates since 2010. He is also a current member of the committee.
Speaker-designee Don Scott said, “I am proud to name Delegates Watts and Hope to these pivotal committees. Year after year they have shown their dedication to improving the lives of every Virginian. These committees are sure to do great things for hardworking Virginia families under their leadership.”

Delegate Patrick Hope said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead the House Courts of Justice Committee, the second oldest standing committee in the Virginia General Assembly. I look forward to working with my colleagues as we continue to make improvements to our civil and criminal justice system.”
Watts and Hope’s positions as Committee Chairmen will become effective upon Scott’s election as Speaker by the House of Delegates, after the members take their oaths of office on the first day of Session, January 10, 2024.
