RICHMOND, VA – Today, Speaker-designee Don Scott announced he has selected Delegate Marcus Simon to chair the House Public Safety Committee in the 2024 General Assembly Session. Del. Simon has served in the House of Delegates since 2014.
Speaker-designee Don Scott said, “I am thrilled to announce that I have selected Delegate Marcus Simon to chair the Public Safety Committee. Delegate Simon has been steadfast in his commitment to keeping Virginia communities safe. I look forward to working with him to ensure that every family across the Commonwealth can live, work, go to school, and run a business without fear of gun violence.”
“I look forward to working with Speaker-designee Scott to restore the public’s faith in the legislature to protect our communities, especially at a time where the voters told us that tackling the issue of gun violence is so important to them. Parents should be able to send their kids to school without worrying about if they’ll make it home at the end of every day. We must strengthen our law enforcement agencies and our community intervention programs to ensure that the gun violence epidemic does not continue to spread,” said Delegate Marcus Simon.
Simon’s position as Public Safety Committee Chair will become effective upon Scott’s election as Speaker by the House of Delegates, after the members take their oaths of office on the first day of Session, January 10, 2024.
