Today, legislation to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board will be sent to the office of Governor Spanberger – a significant step towards lowering the costs of essential medicines for all Virginians.
Passed with strong bipartisan support in both the House of Delegates and the Senate, House Bill 483 (HB483) and Senate Bill 271 (SB271) create an independent board to review the cost of certain high-priced prescription drugs sold in Virginia and determine whether they pose affordability challenges for patients and the health care system.
“Lowering the cost of prescription drugs – including those set by the Inflation Reduction Act– is a paramount goal for House Democrats,” said Del. Karrie K. Delaney, Patron of HB 483. “This is about affordability and accountability. We’re putting a system into place to identify when drug costs are unreasonable, and we’re taking action to ensure lifesaving healthcare is within reach.”
