RICHMOND, Va.—Today, the Virginia House of Delegates approved Governor Ralph Northam’s proposed budget amendment to have a private firm conduct an independent investigation on the Office of the State Inspector General’s report after news broke of potential wrongdoing.
Virginia Speaker of the House Eileen Filler-Corn, House Democratic Majority Leader Charniele Herring, and House Democratic Caucus Chair Rip Sullivan released the following report in response:
“The framework the House has passed provides for a fair, thorough, and independent investigation, free from partisan influence and with a definitive timeline in which Virginians will get the answers they deserve. While some may want to get politicians involved and turn this into a political circus, it is our belief that a serious investigation should be handled by professional investigators.”
