Democrats commit to protecting our democracy in Virginia from extremism
RICHMOND, VA – Today, Virginia House Democratic Caucus Leadership released the following joint statement on the two year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection:
“Two years ago, insurrectionists stormed our country’s Capitol, attacked our democracy, and left five Americans dead. As we watched on in horror, we could not have known how fundamentally that day would alter our democracy and shape the threats of the ever-increasing rise in MAGA extremism across the country, and here at home in Virginia. The attacks did not stop that day, and it’s important to remember that they did not begin then either. Two years later, our freedoms continue to be under siege by Republican extremists looking to strip us of our freedoms and tear our communities apart.
We assure you, House Democrats will not waver when it comes to protecting our Commonwealth from election deniers who want to overturn our democracy. Not now. Not ever.
The sinister extremism of those MAGA Republican insurrectionists nearly cost us our democracy. As we remember the lives taken and trauma inflicted as a result, we also must face the harsh reality of the work we have left to do to fight the threats against our democracy that have only grown stronger since that day. Democrats remain committed to protecting Virginian’s freedoms, and we’ll work with anyone who is willing to take a stand against the dangerous extremism that led us here today.”
