Chair Herring Gives Powerful Floor Speech On Constitutional Amendment
RICHMOND, VA – With one week remaining until Republicans are forced to vote on the rules change on the Constitutional amendment protecting abortion access, Chair Herring gave a powerful floor speech.
Chair Charniele Herring, who filed the House version of the amendment, said: “This amendment to protect reproductive freedom in the Commonwealth deserves a vote on the House floor and Virginia voters deserve to know where their representatives stand on this issue.”
This floor speech followed MAGA Republican Delegate Freitas’ accusation that forcing a floor vote on the Constitutional Amendment was “slick”. With just over a week left of session, Republicans have still refused to vote for the amendment, following a similar pattern of Republican refusal to vote on abortion bills this session.
The rules change will be read for the next four days before it’s voted on February 23. A “yes” vote on the rules change will allow for a floor vote on the Constitutional amendment protecting access to abortion here in Virginia.
