Legislators Present the Case Against a Republican Majority
RICHMOND, VA – Today, following yesterday’s Primary Elections, House Democrats hosted a press call highlighting what is at stake for Virginia voters this November. Democratic Leader Don Scott, Chair Charniele Herring, and Whip Karrie Delaney presented their path to the majority and outlined the case against a Republican majority in the House of Delegates. The stakes have never been higher in Virginia, especially abortion, guns and protecting democracy from MAGA extremism.
Democratic candidates are community leaders, who represent the diversity of the Commonwealth and are doing the work to curb Republican extremism and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of every Virginian. A Democratic majority means a legislature that presents common sense solutions to the problems facing Virginia families, and not a party using culture wars as a distraction while they work to undermine the rights and freedoms of Virginia citizens.
“Democracy itself is on the ballot. Women’s reproductive rights are on the ballot,” said House Democratic Leader Don Scott at a press conference Wednesday morning. “I’m excited for this class of candidates. They are giving people not just something to vote against, instead, we are giving folks something to vote for. These are the future leaders of our Commonwealth and will carry us across the finish line in November.”
“The general election starts today, there is no question about it,” Caucus Chair Charniele Herring said at the conference. “We have educators, healthcare workers, veterans, faith leaders and parents on our slate who are the true representation of the diversity and the culture in the Commonwealth. Our candidates have been spending time in their communities and are ready to be on the front lines pushing back on extremism.”
“A GOP Majority will simply take Virginia backwards,” Democratic Caucus Whip Karrie Delaney said. “I know the pressure of flipping seats. Back in 2017, I flipped a seat from red to blue. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I am confident that our slate of candidates has what it takes to take back the House this November.”
