RICHMOND, VA – Yesterday, CNBC released its Annual Top States for Business Rankings, highlighting that Virginia fell short of the honor of the nation’s Top State once again. Virginia was able to claim the top spot in 2021 under a Democratic Majority and with the leadership of Democratic Governor Ralph Northam. House Democratic Leaders and candidates released the following statements after the announcement:
House Democratic Leader Don Scott said, “Under the leadership of Governor Northam and the Democrats, Virginia was awarded the title of America’s Top State for Business. Twice. But now under the leadership of a self-proclaimed businessman, we’ve once again lost that honor. The Virginia GOP clearly does not have the vision to bring the economy of the future to fruition, especially as they continue to drive away potential employers like the Ford Motor Company because of MAGA conspiracy theories and efforts to make it harder for employees to live here.”
“Being a top state for business is more than a title,” said business leader Delegate Dan Helmer. “It’s about the recognition that the Commonwealth is a place for businesses – especially small, women-owned, veteran-owned, or minority-owned businesses – to call home. The Republicans have been selling us out for their own personal interests and now the bill has come due.”
“As a small business owner in Virginia Beach, I am incredibly disappointed to see that we’ve fallen short of the nation’s top spot once again. Virginians rely on businesses to create an economy that helps families and our communities thrive. I’m looking forward to working with my Democratic colleagues to help reclaim this title next year,” said Michael Feggans, Democratic Candidate for the 97th House District.
