Virginia is the Next Battleground for Protecting Abortion Access
Richmond, VA – Democratic Leaders from the Virginia House of Delegates released the following statements after voters in Ohio affirmed access to abortion services, pushing back against Republican attempts to circumvent democracy ahead of November’s referendum:
“Abortion is on the ballot across the country and we know if MAGA Republicans have their way abortion will be banned in Virginia,” said Virginia House Democratic Caucus Leader Don Scott. “They’re using the same playbook in Ohio, in Virginia, and all across the country: rollback voting rights and try to slide through legislation while voters are kept from the ballot box. Thankfully, Ohio voters saw right through this extremist charade and turned out in droves. Just like voters will do here in Virginia in November to make their voices heard. ”
Virginia House Democratic Caucus Chair Charniele Herring said, “I was happy to hear that Ohio voters would have the opportunity to enshrine reproductive freedom in their state constitution, just like we have tried to do in Virginia. I am saddened to learn that extreme anti-abortion Republicans in Ohio tried to make the process more difficult. Across the country it seems MAGA Republicans will do anything they can to take away reproductive freedom. Voters understand the stakes, and will turn out to protect their rights.”
