Torian Named Chair as Lawmakers Gather in Richmond for Finance Meetings
RICHMOND, VA — Today, Speaker-designee Don Scott announced he has selected Delegate Luke Torian to chair the House Appropriations Committee in the 2024 General Assembly Session. Del. Torian previously served as Chairman of the Committee in the 2020 and 2021 Legislative Sessions. He has also served as a budget conferee for a number of years – including during the most recent budget negotiations earlier this year.
“I can’t think of anyone more suited for this position than Delegate Torian,” said Speaker-Designee Don Scott. “Torian has the experience, the institutional knowledge, and background to run this committee and ensure that it works to create a Commonwealth that works for Virginia families. I eagerly look forward to seeing all he does as Chairman.”
Delegate Luke Torian said, “I am incredibly grateful to be named Chairman of the Appropriations Committee for the next Legislative Session. I look forward to leading the Committee’s work to ensure that the Commonwealth is the best place for hard working Virginians to raise their families and run a business.”
Torian’s position as House Appropriations Committee Chair will become effective upon Scott’s election as Speaker by the House of Delegates, after the members take their oaths of office on the first day of Session, January 10, 2024.
