RICHMOND, VA – Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed House Bill 18 (HB18), House Bill 211 (HB211), and House Bill 1208 (HB1208) into law – providing working families with affordable childcare options and strengthening early childhood education.
“As a mother, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find high-quality, affordable childcare,” said Delegate Adele McClure, Patron of HB18. “That’s why I introduced HB18 — to partner with Virginia employers to put accessible, affordable childcare within reach of all working families.”
“We know that strong early childhood education is essential to our children’s development and success,” said Delegate Debra Gardner, Patron of HB211. “I am proud to partner with Governor Spanberger to improve Virginia’s Head Start and Early Head Start – putting our kids first and supporting working families.”
“Today, Virginia lacks a transparent, reliable way to determine the level of child care funding needed from year to year. This methodology gap contributes to volatility in the system – a major problem that this law will address,” said Delegate Briana Sewell, Patron of HB1208. “By creating a transparent method to estimate the true annual funding needed, we’re supporting working parents, child care providers, and Virginia employers.”
