RICHMOND, VA – Today, Speaker-designee Don Scott announced he has selected Delegate Alfonso Lopez to chair the House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee in the 2024 General Assembly Session. Delegate Lopez will be the first Latino to serve as a full Committee Chair in the history of the General Assembly. He is also a current member of the ACNR committee.
Speaker-designee Don Scott said, “Today, I am proud to be a part of this historic moment and name Delegate Lopez as chair of the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee. He has dedicated over a decade of service to the House of Delegates and I look forward to seeing all that this committee does to protect Virginia’s environment and natural resources under his leadership.”

Lopez’ position as House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee Chair will become effective upon Scott’s election as Speaker by the House of Delegates, after the members take their oaths of office on the first day of Session, January 10, 2024.
