RICHMOND, Va.—Yesterday, House District 86 Republican candidate Julie Perry minimized the Holocaust at a Glenn Youngkin campaign event, by claiming that being a conservative teacher in Virginia “is almost as dangerous as” being Jewish in Nazi Germany.
Virginia House Democratic Caucus Executive Director Jaime Reimers responded with the following statement:
“The House Republican members and candidates have proven over the last year just how out of touch they are by prioritizing the values of Trump over the best interest of the Commonwealth — as they have promoted sedition, downplayed the pandemic while COVID-19 claimed the lives of over 11 thousand Virginians, and denied the existence of racism in America.
“Julie Perry comparing her experiences of people disagreeing with her to that of people who faced genocide shows she lacks understanding of what it means to be persecuted. Empathy should be the most basic prerequisite for serving in public office. Virginia voters recognize that, which is why the House Republicans have and will continue to lose elections in the Commonwealth.”
