| RICHMOND, VA — Today, Virginia House Democrats passed House Bill 2 (HB2) and House Bill 3 (HB3) – legislation that takes essential steps towards delivering affordable energy and lowering costs for Virginia families. HB2 lowers heating costs for low-income Virginians by requiring major utilities to deliver cost-effective energy efficiency upgrades to eligible households. HB3 creates the Income-Qualified Energy Efficiency and Weatherization Task Force within the Department of Energy to identify barriers to enrollment in established energy-efficiency programs for low-income Virginians. “House Democrats’ utmost priority this session is creating an affordable Virginia, and today we are taking a large step forward,” said Delegate Betsy Carr, Patron of HB2. “At a time when costs are rising, I am proud to pass legislation to bring down energy bills for those who need it most. ” “No family should have to choose between paying their energy bill and buying groceries or medication,” said Delegate Destiny LeVere Bolling, Patron of HB3. “This task force will remove barriers and make sure working families can access energy-saving upgrades that lower bills and make homes safer to live in.” |
