RICHMOND, VA – Governor Abigail Spanberger signed into law legislation to lower the cost of life-saving medicine and increase accessibility to essential medical services. The common-sense pieces of legislation were top priorities for Virginia House Democrats during the 2026 session – bringing essential healthcare within reach of all Virginians.
“The bills signed into law yesterday are key components of Virginia House Democrats’ goal of reducing the cost of basic necessities for all Virginians, including life-saving healthcare,” said the Virginia House Democratic Caucus. “By ensuring cost reduction and increasing access to essential medicine and services, these laws take a huge step toward making certain that Virginians can get the care they need.”
Bills signed into law include:
- HB1214 (Delaney) – Caps the out-of-pocket price for 30-day supply of insulin
- HB625 (Henson) – Health insurance; limit on cost-sharing payments for prescription drugs under certain plans
- HB484 (Shin) – Health insurance; ethics and fairness in carrier business practices; downcoded claims
- HB736 (Maldonado) – Health insurance; carrier contracts; required provisions regarding prior authorization for prescription drugs
- HB328 (Sullivan) – Health insurance; essential health benefits benchmark plan
